Alas, no arrows

No arrow last night. But I fell asleep watching Kung Fu so I didn’t meditate on it either. On the plus side, green arrows have taken on a new significance in my waking world. Everytime I see one I view it as a pathway to another sphere of consciousness. My eyes tend to linger on them a little longer. Perhaps this will help. I have guests coming into town this weekend, so I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to meditate before sleep, but I will be trying my best to keep up.

Arrows. Deadly and not green

I did dream of arrows last night, but the kind you shoot things with. I manipulated them with much skill it seemed, but only once I had them on the bow. Before they were on the bow, I was awkward in handling them and getting them nocked. This is sort of how I feel about my green arrows. Tonight I am going to spend longer meditating on the arrow before sleep. Right now I’m just envisioning them as I drift off, but tonight I will go to bed twenty minutes early and take the time to really visualize the arrow. We will see what happens.

No arrow again.

It’s sort of frustration to meet with success the first two days, only to fail on the third and fourth. But I’ll keep at it. At least I know it can be done.

The arrow–not as bright this time

Well, I considered my first night attempting to see the arrow a complete success, but last night it was a struggle. I did see the arrow, but I can’t remember at which point in my dream I saw it. I recall, once again, being disappointed that it wasn’t there and seeing a series of arrow-like objects. The first was the corner of a square–it was green. Then I saw something else that seemed vaguely arrow-like, and finally the arrow, but it was a very dull green, almost gray. Sigh. A step back. I’ll keep working though. I want the arrow to eventually function as a beacon that says “Hey, you’re dreaming!!!!”

Green arrow

Success. Last night a green arrow appeared in my dream. In the context of my dream, I made it appear by realizing it wasn’t there and drawing it on my hand. I may go for a more specific green arrow this time–an actual neon sign with a green arrow on it.

Me and my Arrow

Now that the dream journal has become habitual, it is time to begin dream work. The dream state can be used for divination, to contact entities and to facilitate out of body travel. And probably more, but these are the three I can think of off the top of my head. All of these operations require a certain amount of lucidity or control over the dream state. So, developing lucidity is the logical starting point. I have had plenty of experience with lucid dreams. To date, however, they’ve all been spontaneous. The idea now, is to learn to trigger the lucid dream experience whenever I want to.

Tonight I will begin attempting to manifest an object in my dreaming. If I can manifest the object, it will be a trigger to my conscious mind that I am dreaming, which should, over time, trigger lucidity. When P and I discussed this exercise, we decided to keep it simple and choose something easy to recognize. We went with a neon arrow. So tonight, before going to sleep, I will attempt to clear my mind and meditate on the arrow as I fall asleep. When I picture this arrow, it will be green. We’ll see if I can get it to pop up in one of my dreams tonight.
